Gold of the Earth
Nov. 8, 2009 Many voices, often with contrary points of view, are writing about the ownership and location of the Earth’s gold. I don’t have the breadth of knowledge to contrast with any of those debating, but I would add that there is a gold, a true gold that no villain can touch, being ignored in this debate. I realize I will seem naive to those articulate in this complex area but I offer this simple point of view as a way of including what the Earth might think and feel amidst all these claims of thievery and righteous ownership. Gold of the Earth How sweet you are after the rain, moisture beaded like luminous pearls the color blue as if it had never been so warm and inviting the lift toward open sky.. » read more
Gaia's Request
Nov. 6, 2009 Gaia’s Request She asks only to be loved in her changing time as her ocean floors rise in mountainous ridges, the plates of her land mass groaning apart, her ice caps melting back into the sea, adjusting to her changing place in the heavens and the balancing needed for misguided man. She wants a ceremony of simple devotion, the churning human tide unaware, unconscious though a few light fragile candles in the hurricane wind. She rises wondering if we might greet her before the engines start our machines turning; so small within the mass we miss our importance, how our gestures touch her, how a word of greeting might ease her travail toward the birth of a world yet unknown, waiting to be found in our innermost hearts. Let the Branches Breathe
Nov. 4, 2009 Let the Branches Breathe The cherry leaves turn orange their pale pink to green to sun fire path in the falling month of November. Each stem of each leaf slowly letting go with a golden surrender. Winter is coming for us all as Earth burns through her autumn. How we let go to the flame will feed the ground and let the branches breathe for the spring that is surely coming.. » read more
Forming the Future
Oct. 25, 2009 Forming the Future Many couples walked the park their pictures taken among fallen leaves in the golden light of October. It was a bright day, one of the last before the long rain and gray dim of winter. I’ve been in this park so many times, many days with few people, particularly young women made up in fashion boots beside glittering photo screens. Gaia was a backdrop, a pleasant scene upon which to project their image.. » read more

All We've Lost / Marking the Equinox
Oct. 22, 2009 I believe you’ve published all these at Fourwinds, but I must add something to the poignant photo essay “The Albatross around all our necks” All We’ve Lost All summer long a tiny shorebird perched on a slender leafless branch pointing up to the sky from the steep bank of the cove. Each morning I noticed the little creature feeling our kinship as we faced the rising sun together. The Canada geese are trumpeting now announcing their imminent departure as the sun moves along the jagged horizon on its way south for the winter. I know almost nothing about birds yet this morning, looking out at the empty branch something is missing inside me a reminder perhaps of all we’ve lost and the lightness of a feather as the way forward.. » read more
The Dark Renewal
Oct. 22, 2009 The Dark Renewal The inward breath balances the outer receiving and giving in equal measure, to rest and then to act upon the pivot, the life source and fulcrum of the cell, the organism, the personality, the planet. I appear among many and abide in secret, the alternating pulse of my deepest desire. I know my orbit, the confusion with death resolved as each wild thing with its brilliant eye looks forever toward its freedom. Going within, I am not lost in the interior, the dimension and depth of the cave familiar.. » read more
The Breath and Heart
Oct. 20, 2009 The Breath and Heart The breath and heart beat with the rhythm of the Earth in touch with the pulse of the great trees and stars. Some believe we all align one day but until then we have our footsteps to mind. Unlike orcas or trailing geese we must create a path, an artist’s line within a field of beauty. The tiny valves of our hearts flutter their thousands of beats reminding us of the origin and goal to our long, long journey.. » read more
Along the Far Horizon
Oct. 14, 2009 Along the Far Horizon The morning sky barely lifts the leaden mass of dense cloud as we sit in darkness feeling the ground move beneath us praying Earth will find the balance we’ve upset with hard unbending rails and mills that grind smoke through the night. We’re unsure of time but rise with a sense of fate our connection, our hope with what begins to glow along the far horizon. Don Hynes Poetry website . » read more
