Impeachment has picked up steam once again as Pelosi finally moves to quit stalling and hand the documents over to the Senate. As these documents go to the Senate, Republicans and Democrats will have a whole host of new fights to take up over things like witnesses, the process, and the scheduling.

The issue of scheduling the trial and the important dates where certain witnesses are present or when votes are held will come into play for impeachment. Remember, some of the Democrats that will be involved in the impeachment process are also running for President. These candidates are effectively out of the race if impeachment moves slowly, Bernie Sanders who has quickly become one of the front runners in the race will be unable to campaign while the impeachment debate rages on. One may speculate that these Democrats might sack the efforts of Pelosi in an attempt to secure a nomination for Warren or Sanders.

Another big flash in the pan for the upcoming impeachment trial is witnesses and what they might say. Before any witnesses even get a chance to speak it must be decided if they will even be allowed in the trial. This has been the primary point of concern online and in the media now that the trial is to take place soon.

While Lee has been vocal on the issue his opinion of it is rather agnostic, he has stated that he really doesn’t see a need to the additional witnesses as there were already many called in the House. Lee doesn’t serve as a good marker of one side or the other in this debate, he is important to watch because he gauges the general temperature of the room very well.

    Susan Collins

Susan Collins is known for voting against the President on key issues and formally told the Press that she is working a group of Republicans, who went unnamed for the most part, that are looking to secure witnesses in the Senate trial. Many see this as her way to ensure her reelection as she faces a harder reelection every year.

    Lisa Murkowski

While Lisa Murkowski often finds herself in a similar position to Susan Collins, she is often a variable to be considered when these big bipartisan votes roll around. Murkowski has already announced her more reserved position on the issue. Murkowski has suggested that witnesses only come forward after the trial has started.

Murkowski has offered a very reasonable middle ground on witnesses that many can get behind. One thing to remember though is that all these witnesses the Democrats are demanding come forward for the Senate trial could have been called forward on the House side of impeachment where Democrats maintain control. If the Democrats failed to call forward these witnesses then the consequences of this should be apparent.

    Lamar Alexander

Lamar Alexander has been an odd one in the Senate for a while, he has already stated that impeaching the President is a mistake and he even went on to defend that remark. He has tried his best to remain quiet on this issue but has slowly made small statements on the issue, for example, the other day he announced that he would like to reserve judgment on the issue until he gets those articles.

    Rand Paul

Rand Paul has been the biggest libertarian voice in the Senate and he has made an interesting show when talking about impeachment. Paul has made an interesting gambit in the Senate, he announced recently that if the GOP votes to back the Democrat witness measure he will bring Hunter Biden into the fold and make this debacle a circus.
