The ‘Social Justice’ Crusading Companies Have Remained Silent on China’s Hong Kong Takeover

Smaller Font Larger Font RSS 2.0

Many American companies engage in a tactic known as virtue signaling, they put out big fluffy messages on social media but don’t do anything to address the issues they claim to care about. It is evident that they do not actually care about issues because now that the crackdown is in Hong Kong, a place where they operate they have chosen to say nothing and do nothing. Here are spineless companies who are all bark and no bite when it comes to the big issues:

1.) American Express

From intern to full-time, #TeamAmex colleague Daniela A. has seen first-hand how Amex embraces diversity. We’re proud to back colleagues like Daniela and foster an environment where everyone feels they belong. #HappyPride
American Express was quick to comment on American politics but has remained silent on the issues affecting those in other parts of the world. The people in Hong Kong are facing authoritarian oppression and this is going to hurt the business of American Express, the political situation in American doesn’t, which is why it is so bizarre to see companies do things like this.

2.) Nike

Nike has already run into trouble with their past statements on Hong Kong and suffers from a sort of whipped dog syndrome. Nike will boldly come out and make comments about American politics but it is too afraid to stand up to China, American’s just want to buy shoes and will do so regardless of the current political situation but in China, the government would come crashing down and threaten the very existence of the company.

3.) Scholastic

Scholastic is one of the largest book publishers in the world and they have completely bent the knee to China. Rather than stand up and push back against the regime in the area they are bowing down. The consequence of doing business in China is that you must effectively give all your secrets and your voice to the Chinese Communist Party.

4.) Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola jumped on the opportunity to comment on American politics but has chosen to cower in fear in Hong Kong. If this company really cared about its consumers it would stand up in all cases and be political even when it is not optic,

5.) Marriott

Marriott used it’s international branch to lecture American citizens but won’t use it’s a massive platform to help the people of Hong Kong. The money they make from China is more important than the suffering of those in the area.

6.) McDonald’s

One of the most recognizable American brands in the world is McDonald’s, It is a shame to see that they are willing to lecture Americans and put the citizens of this country on blast all while they fail to even recognize the hardships of our allies. These spineless companies just want to score points with the progressive mob that threatens their existence, this system of appeasement has proven to be a failure time and time again all throughout history.
