Skating Around the Economic Crisis in California
It’s just like the good old days of Dogtown in southern California, if you’re a skater that is. Thanks to the economic crisis and the wave of foreclosures it has brought, empty swimming pools, and full ones just begging to be drained and carved, litter the suburban landscape. Security is exceedingly low according to this al Jazeera report.
Cities across the US are turning into ghost towns as people lose their homes and move away.
And California’s sunny central valley is no exception. The city of Fresno has streets of vacant houses, and many of them have swimming pools.
In hard times, some of Fresno’s residents are using the abandoned pools to cheer themselves up.
