Thanks to Your Tireless Efforts, the Senate Stopped Monsanto's Dream Bill Today!

Will you help make sure we can stop it for good?

However, we can't declare full victory yet — labeling opponents are already scheming to bring this bill back up before the Vermont GMO labeling law goes into effect this summer. Can you chip in now to help us stop Monsanto's Dream Bill for good?

In just the last 24 hours, you helped us get in more than 5,000 phone calls into Senate offices. We heard from numerous Senate staff that they've heard more about GMO labeling than any other issue this year.

Our organizers were working in 17 states throughout the U.S. to put pressure on the key Senate targets, and it worked! Every single Senator we were targeting voted the right way on this! Senators Stabenow (D-MI), Bennet (D-CO), Brown (D-OH), Casey (D-PA), Klobuchar (D-MN), Franken (D-MN), Durbin (D-IL), Collins (R-ME), Kaine (D-VA), Warner (D-VA), Menendez (D-NJ) and many others listened to their constituents and voted to protect your right to know if your food contains GMOs.

Senators Merkley (D-OR), Boxer (D-CA), Tester (D-MT), Blumenthal (D-CT), and others were true champions in speaking up for our right to know if our food contains genetically engineered ingredients.

While we can celebrate for a moment, we know that Monsanto and their allies are on Capitol Hill right now trying to figure out how they will bring this back up. They have too much at stake, and they will stop at nothing to make sure that Vermont's law does not go into effect in July.

Can you chip in to fight back against Monsanto, and make sure mandatory on-package GMO labeling becomes law?

The Senate is getting ready to go on recess for the next two weeks, and we need your help to mobilize our nearly 1 million supporters in key districts. We need your help to:

  • Organize in-district petition deliveries to key Senate offices.
  • Hold call-in days to put pressure on Senators who voted the wrong way on the cloture vote.
  • Get media coverage in districts where Senators are on the fence.
  • Put pressure on Senate leadership to hold off any "compromise" legislation that results in anything less than mandatory on-package labeling of genetically engineered ingredients.

In poll after poll, more than 90 percent of people say they want food to be labeled if it contains genetically engineered ingredients. Several states have already passed laws requiring clear labeling on food packaging, including Vermont, where labeling will go into effect in July unless Monsanto and its allies get enough support in the Senate to pass this bill.

Last month, Campbell's announced that it will label all of its products that contain genetically engineered ingredients to comply with the Vermont law. This was big news and we hope that other food companies will stop fighting against GMO labels and also comply with the Vermont law. We know that all companies can do what Campbell's did, but we must stop Monsanto's attempt in the Senate to thwart states' laws to require mandatory on-package GMO labeling.

I hope you can stand with us today to continue to fight for your right to know what is in your food.

Onward together,

Wenonah Hauter
