We need to keep calling, emailing, writing, faxing, emailing our legislators if we are going to defeat Senate Bill S2994a and Assembly Bill A2371a, and retain our right to a religious exemption from vaccine mandates to attend school.

We are asking people who can come to Albany today, wednesday, May 29,  to join us in a lobbying day (no rally) tomorrow from 9 am to 5 pm at the Legislative Office Building (LOB), 188, State Street, Albany, NY. and a press conference to be held at 10 am in the LCA Press Room, RM 130, in the Legislative Office Building. We will be presenting information countering the many factually incorrect statements coming from Sen. Brad Hoylman and Assemblymember Jeffrey Dinowitz about religious exemptions and measles.

If you are coming to Albany please write a personal letter to the legislators describing how important the religious exemption is too your family, and what the consequences would be for you if it is repealed. Bring 20 copies of your letter to five to legislators.

If by chance, S2994a and A2371a, the bills in NY to repeal the religious exemption from vaccine mandates to attend school, get reported out of the health committees of their respective houses in Albany we want to  have as many No votes as possible in each house. If we have sufficient No votes the bills may not be sent to the floor for  a public vote and the bills could just remained tabled until next year. We need all the Republican votes in both houses and 10 Democrats in the Senate and about 34 Democrats in the Assembly. Please get on the phone today to your own State Senator and Assemblymember and politely encourage him or her to cast a No vote. Ask the staffer what the member's position is on the bill. And stay in-touch with them. Like them on Facebook, go to their community events and ask them about the bills, make an appointment and go see him or her with friends in the district or Albany. This is not a high priority bill with many members, let’s keep it that way.

Please start calling the following legislators.

Your State Senator’s name and phone numbers should appear below:

Your Assemblymember’s name and number in the district should appear below as well. Please let them know that you oppose Assembly Bill A2371.

Key Talking points:
·         Students with religious exemptions are only one out of 1000 people in the state,
·         Students with religious exemptions are less than 1% of students statewide,
·         Students with religious exemptions are less than .5% of students in NYC,
·         There are eight times as many students without religious exemptions who have not had the MMR vaccine as people with religious exemptions according to the CDC. S2994 does nothing about that.
With the Democrats: This bill is established that the State has the power to tell people what to do with their bodies and their children’s bodies? What ever happened to “My body, my choice.”
With the Republicans: This bill is a gross infringement on parental and religious rights and takes away a right we have always had in New York for no rational reason.
·         We have no data at all showing that students with religious exemption have any role in the outbreak. Even Mayor de Blasio admitted that. https://www.politico.com/states/new-york/city-hall/story/2019/05/07/de-blasio-measles-reality-has-nothing-to-do-with-religious-vaccine-exemptions-1009681
·         How are children with IEPs and 504 plans going to get the services that school districts must provide, whether the child is in school or not? And how much is this going to cost.
·         What is going to happen to the students who have medical problems deserving of a medical exemption who were told by their doctors to go get a religious exemption because getting a medical exemption is so difficult. Senator Gustavo Rivera, Chair of the Senate Health Committee, has a bill right now, S477,  to fix this problem.
