Three US police officers have been placed on leave after they shot dead 17-year-old Kristiana Coignard in the lobby of the Longview Police Department, Texas.

The victim was shot four times when she went to speak to an officer at the Longview police headquarters on Thursday.

Longview police spokeswoman Kristie Brian refused to name the police officers.

She said the girl confronted the officers with a weapon.

“When police arrived to assist her, that’s when she confronted them,” Brian said. “She did brandish a weapon. I don’t know what kind it was. She came at the officers and was shot.”

Brian added that the station was fairly empty at the time of the shooting.

“At that time of the day the only people in the building usually are the person who works the desk, the civilian who answers calls, and then there are a few public safety communications people,” she said.

Longview Mayor Jay Dean said that he was informed that a “female wielding a knife entered into the police department.”

Meanwhile, the online hacker, “Anonymous,” threatened retaliation against the police and the city of Longview over the shooting death of Kristiana Coignard by police.

Texas Rangers is investigating the killing of the teenager.
