Responding to New York’s legalization of abortion up until the moment of birth, Focus on the Family plans to blast live ultrasounds on monitors and screens across Times Square.

“We’ll have great speakers. We’re going to have music, but we’re also going to do a live ultrasound of a third-trimester baby,”Focus on the Family President Jim Daly said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network.

The event is scheduled for May 4.

Daly noted that with the current 4-D technology, “It looks like a picture of a 1-year-old.”

“There is no way a person is going to be able to say, ‘That is not a child.’ It is a child and we want everybody to see it,” he told CBN.

Daly explained that the New York law, passed Jan. 22 to the applause of lawmakers, and a similar Virginia bill prompted the response.

“These politicians that have overreached, in our opinion, when it comes to reshaping the abortion debate,” he said.

Daly also pointed to Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam’s statement in a radio interview that some babies should be allowed to die after they’re born, effectively promoting infanticide.

“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,” Northam told Washington’s WTOP after Virginia’s bill was blocked by the state House of Delegates. “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”

Virginia’s bill would have allowed babies to be aborted even while the mother is in delivery.

Ancient Rome

Daly acknowledged Times Square was selected for the May event because it’s “the epicenter of everything.”

“We’re not shy about going there and saying to Governor Cuomo and others, ‘Let’s look. This isn’t adversarial. Let’s just take a position. Let’s see what an ultrasound looks like,'” he said.

He said he doubts they have actually seen one.

“And so, to be able to do that on the jumbo screen and say: ‘Here’s a picture of a third-trimester pregnancy. Look at the definition. These children are viable outside the womb. These children are already fully human.’ And to do it in such a way that we can all peer into the womb and see what that child looks like, developmentally and every other way – what an awesome sight to see, and these politicians will have to defend their position.”

Daly recalled Christians were known for saving babies in ancient Rome who were thrown in garbage heaps to die.

“That was [Rome’s] form of infanticide,” he said.

“So this isn’t anything new, but it was the Christians that stood up and said: ‘No. Everyone human is made in God’s image and we can’t destroy innocent human beings.'”
