c story, for much of it is a story, is that a group of SEA Muslims, resident in Canada, have been plotting to commit terrorist acts in that country, including blowing up the Canadian Parliament building, kidnapping the new and very right wing Canadian PM and cutting off his head, blowing up the Canadian Broadcasting headquarters building, causing power outages and so on.

The “October Surprise” element can be found in the fact that this small group of Muslim activists were under investigation for over a year by both Canadian and American intelligence people who, according to the press, “have been working together in close and very active cooperation” during that period.

“Close cooperation” means close coordination of the story so that it can be used in the States before the elections in November.

According to two of my sources, it will be said that this “enormous plot” was part of an even “larger plot” which would involved “hundreds of trained Muslims” who would also attack the United States. The Bush people are preparing to say that our President and his ever-watchful DoD and the DHS are preparing, once again, to protect the American people against terrible “terrorist attacks.”

This is a pile of horse dung from the get go.

Of course there are Muslim activists in Canada who are anti-American and pro-Muslim. There are such groups everywhere these days, thanks to the savage treatment of their co-religionists by American military personnel in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Most of these are only talk groups but it suits the fear mongers to blow them up in the public eye as “important terrorists” to continue to scare the American (and now the Canadian) public into allowing all kinds of obnoxious controls over their lives (the better to keep them under control, my dear.)

The US wants tight control over the Canadian border (which is very porous) to keep a flood of recent deserts from our military escaping into Canada, something the Canadians are not happy about. Now, with these “shocking revelations” this can be easily accomplished. The theme, as I have been told, of the new drive will be (concerning the Republicans in general and Bush in particular) ‘They Saved Us From the Evil Canadian Muslim Terrorists!

First of all, there is a blackout on concrete information concerning the organization and goals of this alleged “huge gang” which indicates that they are still creating their story and without question, coordinating it with their American friends to suit their purposes as well.

Secondly, the length of the “investigation” (over a year) is highly suspicious. If, as they have alleged, a “huge plot” involving “tons of high explosives (!)” coupled with what used to be called ‘dynamite outrages’, a sensible person would wonder why nothing was done earlier? The answer is very simple. It this emerged earlier, it would be too soon forgotten by the voters but if the Republican mavens, especially Rove, can use convenient Canadian/CIA “revelations” in the four months leading up to the crucial midterms elections, they can try to whip up a frenzy of fear that they feel will keep them in office as the only effective “protectors” of the public.

This sort of ‘Duct tape and Red Alert Days’ worked for a while but when it was evident that there was nothing behind it but the usual, and growing, lies of a frantic government, the public soon lost interest and fear gave way to cynical disbelief.

Now that the desperate Administration can distance themselves from their previously discredited manipulations, it can all be put onto the Canadians.

Bush and his religious/fascists have been beating a broken drum about the non-gay marriage issue. Outside of a small group of loud, obnoxious fanatics, most Americans feel that there are far more important issues to deal with than this one. As this is a project that will never become law because of the procedural legal obstacles involved, this a ploy is bordering on the juvenile, showing just how far down the well the once-vaunted Republican cleverness has fallen. Not satisfied with a good ass-kicking given to them by the Senate, Frist is returning to the Wooing of the Right-Wing Nut Fringe by bringing out a “Thou Shalt Not Burn the Flag” game. What next? Closing all commercial businesses on Sunday so shoppers have to go to a Church of Bush’s choice?
