There is NO Terrorist Threat - II
By Carl F. Worden
Issuing elevated alert warnings obviously results in heightened security, which translates into additional expense for the areas affected, so issuing such an alert should not be taken lightly, and certainly not for political grandstanding at taxpayer expense.
In a Washington Post article published today, 8/3/04, journalists Dan Eggen and Dana Priest report that:
“More than a half dozen government officials interviewed Monday, who declined to be identified because classified information is involved, said that most, if not all, of the information about the buildings (in New York, New Jersey and Washington DC) seized by authorities in a raid in Pakistan last week was about three years old, and possibly older”
It goes on to read, “There is nothing right now that we’re hearing that is new”, said one senior law enforcement official who was briefed on the alert. “Why did we go to this level? … I still don’t know that.”
In other words, the “intelligence” picked up in that raid in Pakistan dates back to around 9/11/01 or before, when there really was a terrorist threat that resulted in the attacks on the twin towers in New York and the Pentagon.
I’ve written it before, and I’ll write it again: There is no terrorist threat at this time to America’s heartland. Since writing my original article, “There Is No Terrorist Threat” in January of this year, there have been no significant terrorist attacks carried out on American soil since 9/11/2001, nor do I expect any unless George W. Bush wins re-election as president. http://www.federalobserver.com/archive.php?aid=7147
The Bush Administration insists there are plans to attack America’s cities prior to the November elections, in an attempt to disrupt our electoral process, similar to the attacks al Qaeda carried out in Madrid, Spain, that resulted in the election of a candidate who promised to withdraw Spanish troops from Iraq.
That tactic worked in Spain, but it would have exactly the opposite effect on American voters, and al Qaeda knows that. If such an attack were carried out in America, it would have the effect of throwing both decided and undecided voters to Bush, and as long as there is a 50-50 chance Bush will be denied re-election like his father, al Qaeda isn’t going to make such a move. They’d be stupid if they did, and if it hasn’t already become obvious to you readers yet, let me assure you al Qaeda isn’t stupid.
Presidential candidate John Kerry is a known waffler and flip-flopper. While he states publicly his support for keeping troops in Iraq until security is achieved, al Qaeda knows there is a strong possibility that a President Kerry will withdraw our troops from Iraq if American opposition to the occupation continues to grow – as it has been.
Senior military intelligence officers were recently quoted that there are approximately 20,000 hard-core resistance fighters in Iraq, and that they are largely supported by the general population. There is no reason to doubt their analysis. If there were overwhelming opposition amongst Iraq citizens to the resistance, anyone even suspected of participating would have been fingered and rounded up a long time ago, but that isn’t happening.
As I have written many times before, when the general population largely supports a guerilla resistance, they cannot be militarily defeated unless we are willing to annihilate the general population and let God sort them out, and those same military intelligence officers echoed exactly that assessment in the same article. Short of that, our soldiers in Iraq will continue to be killed and maimed as long as they remain there.
So if Bush is re-elected, there is a solid probability terrorist attacks will be carried out in America, because he will refuse to withdraw from Iraq no matter what the cost in American lives. At that point, al Qaeda will have nothing to lose and everything to gain by such tactics.
Fear is a great motivator, and short of an actual terrorist attack on American soil, issuing these bogus terror alerts buys George Bush votes. A few weeks or a few months from now, we’ll be hearing about how the increased security brought on by this most recent sham caused al Qaeda to cancel their plans to attack.
We were recently informed that an al Qaeda plan spawned in New Mexico, and planned to be carried out in California, was thwarted by the hard work and diligence of the Office of Homeland Security. I’m not buying that basket of BS either. Show me the beef! It is all empty words with no proof to back up the allegations, because after all, the government can’t divulge the hard proof for security reasons. It’s a license to lie.
In a real terrorist scenario, such as exists in Israel, real terrorist attacks are carried out – even with the massive amount of security at almost every public door that exists there. We have no such thing, and to top it all off, Bush has left our borders wide open for any terrorist to lope in and drop off a bomb in that crowded theater or that packed nightclub or that busy grocery store. That isn’t happening, so at this time, and at least until the outcome of the November elections is known, there is no terrorist threat in America.
