Controversial British opposition MP George Galloway (left) donates cash to Hamas in Gaza City. He also hands over the keys to vehicles he brought with him in an aid convoy.

I am deeply moved by heroic deeds and George Galloway's humanitarian journey into the heart of illegally occupied Palestine and deeply wounded Gaza is just such an heroic deed.

The 'Viva Palestina' convoy handed over more than 1.5 million pounds of humanitarian aid to the Hamas government in the Gaza Strip. Galloway told Press TV that the Viva Palestina campaign has also nullified the sanctions imposed by the European Union on the Gaza Strip through distributing cash in the impoverished territory ~ " I say now to the British and European governments, if you want to take me to court, I promise you there is no jury in all of Britain who will convict me. They will convict you," he pronounced. .

Galloway's historic speech from Al Katiba Square, declared that Ismael Hania is the legitimate Hamas representative of the Palestinian people and a prime minister for all the free of the world ~ thus contradicting the official positions of the United States, Great Britain and Israel.

He also said that the members of the convoy were not from the upper class of the UK, but from all walks of life, all religions, all colors. The donations came from ordinary people, from mosques and churches. He also said that millions could not make this journey, but were all praying for the besieged people of Palestine ~ for, indeed, the people of the world are united in their calls for aid and justice in the Middle East. The United Nations estimates that on top of the hundreds of children who
died, more than 1700 children were injured during the recent

hostilities with Israel.

'We are giving you now 100 vehicles and all of their contents, and we make no apology for what I am about to say. We are giving them to the elected government of Palestine (Hamas).'

But there is more evidence of people power on the move ~ even in the United States.

On March 6, 2009, Senator Kyl (R-WI) introduced an amendment to the Omnibus bill that would deny Palestinian refugees from Gaza resettlement protection. The US is not likely to resettle this population in 2009, and therefore, the amendment is not only discriminatory but also unnecessary. Contrary to 30 years of extending protection to refugees on the basis of need, the Kyl amendment seeks to discriminate against an entire group based on nationality alone.

Thanks to an Internet mobilization in which over 16,000 people faxed letters in a span of just two hours to oppose this injustice ~ a bipartisan group of several Senators including Leahy (VT), Kerry (MA) and Gregg (NH) stood on the floor of the Senate and spoke out against the amendment. The people's faxes together with these concerned leaders applied enough political pressure for Senator Kyl to withdraw the amendment completely.
