Caught in Bed with Evil
November 18, 2008 Crossing points into Gaza have been shut down for almost two weeks, forcing the only power plant there to stop functioning, due to the lack of fuel. Last week, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency ran out of food and stopped rations’ deliveries to 750,000 residents of Gaza. Though the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is now immanent, Western media refrains from reporting about the emerging disaster. Apparently, there are far more interesting things to write about, much more interesting than millions of Palestinians who are being starved by the Jewish state. However the press was kind enough to report that British foreign minister David Miliband spent some time in Israel this week.. » read more

UN to Suspend Food Distribution in Gaza
November 13, 2008 The United Nations will suspend its food distribution to half of Gaza's 1.5 million people on Thursday after Israel failed to allow emergency supplies into the Palestinian territory, a spokesman said. Israel initially said it would allow 30 trucks to deliver supplies to Gaza on Thursday after it completely sealed off the Gaza Strip on November 5, but later said mortar fire by Gaza militants made it impossible to do so. "They have told us the crossings are closed today. At the end of today we will suspend our food distribution," said UN Relief and Works Agency spokesman Chris Gunness.. » read more
Where There's A Will
6 - 12 November 2008 The Israelis can be defied. But it requires courage, especially from Arab countries, asserts The auditorium of the Rashad Al-Shawwa Cultural Centre reverberated with applause as Joe Fallisi, the Italian tenor, finished his song. Fallisi is one of 27 foreign and Palestinian activists who arrived to Gaza last week aboard the boat "Dignity" in a blockade- busting trip organised by the Free Gaza Movement. Palestinians attend the funeral of five Hamas fighters killed in an overnight Israeli army operation in the Gaza Strip, the most serious violation so far of a fragile truce that went into effect in June During the three days they spent in Gaza, the activists toured the strip, inspecting the damage that two years of blockade and Israeli incursions have incurred. On Thursday, they went to Dar Al-Shifaa, the largest hospital in Gaza, where dozens of patients face death if they are not allowed to receive treatment abroad.. » read more
Gaza's Power Plant Halted as Israel Blocks Fuel
Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 Gaza's sole power plant shuddered to a halt on Monday evening after Israel refused to allow fuel into the besieged territory, a Palestinian official said. "The power station has stopped functioning completely due to a lack of fuel," said Qanaan Obeid, deputy director of Gaza's official energy office. "The power station provides 40 percent of the Gaza Strip's electricity, the remainder comes from Israel," he added. The Islamist movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, instituted power cuts in certain districts of Gaza due to the shortages, the official said.. » read more

Khudari: Electricity station's stoppage entails humanitarian disaster
9/11/2008 GAZA, (PIC)-- MP Jamal Al-Khudari, the head of the popular anti siege committee, has warned that the complete stoppage of the sole electricity generation station in Gaza would entail a humanitarian and environmental disaster within the few coming hours. He said in a press conference on Sunday that the Israeli occupation authority was closing all Gaza commercial crossings for almost a week and fuel was running out from that station. The MP pointed out that the IOA was also banning entry of necessary equipment for the maintenance of the power station that was shelled and greatly damaged two years ago in an IOF aerial raid. Khudari appealed to the international community to pressure the IOA to end the siege, adding that the IOA was tightening the siege on Gaza following the successful sea voyages. Kenan Obaid, the deputy director of the Gaza power authority, said on Sunday that one of the three turbines in the power station was already out of work and tomorrow the remaining two would stop due to the lack of fuel.. » read more
