Trump Already Has Sessions' Replacement Picked?
TTN
According to The Daily Mail:
President Donald Trump spoke personally with Jeff Sessions' chief of staff about replacing the attorney general in late September, according to a West Wing aide.
The source confirmed that the conversation happened, after The Washington Postreported that the president had teed up the conversation with Matthew Whitaker.
Senior Republicans told DailyMail.com on Monday that Whitaker is in a 'grooming exercise' to become attorney general, and was expected to become acting deputy attorney general until Rod Rosenstein's planned resignation evaporated two weeks ago.
President Trump was asked by reporters about the situation:
Rosenstein is likely to stay after mending his relationship with the President, but it looks like Trump already knows who will replace Sessions once he exits.'I never talk about conversations that I had,' Trump added. But, you know, The Washington Post gets it wrong a lot. That's the only thing.'
It was also reported that other big names could emerge but if they do not Whitaker will be next in line.
