RADICAL REFORM Minneapolis City Council unanimously votes to abolish police department in wake of George Floyd’s death

THE Minneapolis City Council voted on Friday to officially disband the city's police department and replace it with a community-led model.

The council unanimously passed a resolution to pursue a community-led public safety system in the wake of George Floyd's death.

Last week, the council said they would vote to disband the Minneapolis Police Department and vowed to end the current system of policing.

On  May 25, former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin kneeled on the back of Floyd's neck for close to nine minutes.

Floyd died, and his death was ruled a homicide.
