Something's Up: NJ gets "Air raid" sirens

Jersey City & North Bergen, NJ -- Within the last week, at least two sets of "Emergency Warning Sirens" have been installed along Kennedy Blvd; one in front of the Columbia Park Shopping Center at 31st St and Kennedy Blvd my home town of North Bergen, another 2 miles farther south at Graham St. and Kennedy Blvd. in Jersey City.

The sirens each sit atop a brand new telephone pole. The systems are powered by solar power, connected to some central station via radio and are positioned to be heard by residential areas throughout Hudson County.

A label on the siren box indicates the sirens are made by ATI Systems of Massachusetts. A check of their web site indicates the sirens are one-thousand, six hundreds watts per set up. They are battery powered. The batteries are recharged by a solar panel on each telephone pole. The sirens are activated via radio control. A directional antenna is also attached to each telephone pole.

There's just a couple problems:

1) We do not have volunteer fire, ambulance or rescue services in this area; they're all full-time, paid services. So these sirens won't be for calling out emergency workers as happens in towns with volunteers.

2) We do not have any nuclear power plants within 50 miles, so these sirens can't be to warn of some type of nuclear power emergency.

3) This part of New Jersey, just two miles west of Midtown New York City, doesn't get Tornadoes, so the sirens can't be for that.

4) Most of the county is 300' above sea level so I doubt any kind of Tsunami is a worry. . . . . .

So what could these brand new, 1600 watt emergency sirens positioned every two miles in our residential areas be for?

In the 1950's, 60's and 70's, during the height of the Cold War, this country installed such sirens as "Air raid" sirens in case the nation came under air attack from a foreign enemy or nuclear missile attack from the Soviet Union.

Surely no foreign military could successfully make an air raid strike on the USA today, so that leaves only one other concern: Nuclear missiles. Is this what the government is planning for?

What do they know that they aren't telling us?
