Tucker Carlson: "Congress is now about to get involved in changing this country."

Democrats are seeking control over federal elections. The U.S. House of Representatives proposed a bill Monday that would put the federal government in charge of how each state conducts its own presidential elections. Bill HR1 proposes the federal government have ultimate supervisory power.

Pearson Sharp: "Democrats are doubling down [on] their efforts to make any and all future elections even more prone to fraud."

Republicans claim the bill proposes sweeping changes that contradict Article 1 of the United States Constitution. As it stands, the Constitution gives individual states the right to control their own elections with their own laws and regulations.

Republicans fear this bill would give the party in charge too much control and open the door to massive election fraud.

Ken Cuccinelli: "[It] eliminates penalties for illegal aliens voting in elections, so let's not kid ourselves about what the path plan here is."

Some pundits claim that since Democrats now have control of the House and Senate, they are seeking to lock down their power by controlling elections. Democrats, on the other hand, claim federal control would simplify the process and avoid problems like what happened in the 2020 election.

Donald Trump: "As far as the ballots are concerned, it's a disaster."

According to One America News, the bill would expand early voting, make absentee voting easier and bar states from requiring voter ID — the very same issues questioned during the last presidential election. As OAN's Pearson Sharp says, "This bill is the death of democracy."

Sharp: "If you were shocked by how catastrophic the 2020 election turned out to be, get ready, because if HR1 passes, that's exactly how Democrats plan to run every election from here on out."

Trump voters, many of whom still believe the 2020 election was fraudulent, see it as nothing but a power grab. It could make it much more difficult for a conservative in America to win the White House.

Cuccinelli: "They believe it's a path for maintaining their own power."

Since the bill usurps states' rights to determine their own election laws, constitutional scholars believe it would not get past the courts. If this bill becomes law and the courts do allow it, it would not only mean election reform but also an altering of the nation's identity as a federation of states with independent internal affairs.
