Earthquake Felt Across Western Washington
No immediate damage or injuries were reported.
The earthquake was centered near Greenwater, Wash., said Bill Steele, seismology lab coordinator for the University of Washington.
People reported feeling it as far north as Everett and as far south as near the Oregon border, he said. The U.S. Geological Survey received hundreds of reports of shaking felt in Longview, Kelso, Olympia and Seattle.
The agency's monitoring equipment reported the earthquake's epicenter about 2.8 miles below the surface.
"It was felt quite widely," Steele said. "We've had a number of aftershocks," ranging from 1.8 to 2.7.
Tom Yelin, also of the University of Washington, said he didn't think the quake was associated with any volcanic activity. -- From staff and wire reports
