A Brand New Island
about a mile across. Tonga authorities have not commented on the existence of the island, and the Bulletin of the Global Volcanism Network has stated that a large plume of pumice has been sighted near Fiji, and they are seeking its source. The appearance of a new island suggests extensive underwater volcanic activity in the area, which is at present not being detected.
