Oct. 31, 2009 Military helicopters and ships scoured the waters off San Diego on Friday for nine people involved in a midair collision between a Coast Guard plane and a Marine Corps helicopter. After searching most of the day, rescue teams did not find any survivors or bodies, only a field of debris floating in the Pacific. Military officials said they did not know how the crash had occurred, or which aircraft had struck the other, saying they were focused on search efforts. Seven people were aboard the Coast Guard’s C-130 transport plane and two were in the Marine Corps’ AH-1 Cobra helicopter when the crash occurred Thursday at 7:10 p.

Oct. 26, 2009 Labor unions exist, theoretically, to do little more than defend the interests of that union’s members against the interests of those that employ those members. On the face of it, there isn’t anything inherently wrong with this arrangement, in fact it should be viewed as necessary in some situations. But, there can be problems with the inherent conflict of interests this kind of arrangement can bring into effect. After all, it’s still in the union’s interest to act in ways that help the employer succeed… otherwise the unions begin to act in ways that are ultimately more detrimental to their members than their worth by causing their member’s employers to close shop.

Sept. 15, 2009 The information for this comes from crime experts and convicted burglars in North Carolina, Oregon, California, and Kentucky. Here’s what a burglar won’t tell you: Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator. Thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard last week.

8-9-9 Editor's Note: The reason that so many in "law enforcement" today act like uncaring, inhumane barbarians is because they are CHOSEN and TRAINED to behave that way. You can see from news reports that the level of barbarity against relatively NON-THREATENING individuals who have usually committed the 'crime' of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, has been increasing dramatically over the past few years in Britain and here in the US and Canada. Cops are being encouraged to behave this way using the same sort of dehumanizing mind set that has been employed for the past decade to "train" US military personnel. It's part of the agenda to federalize and militarize local police. Civilians that cops encounter in the street are viewed as the "enemy", much as civilians in Iraq or Afghanistan are viewed as the "enemy" and the threshold of restraint falls to ever lower levels as the goons who get away with this abusive behavior never pay a price for their thugery.

The Best Place To Hide Money: Conversation With A Burglar

August 6, 2009 (Feb. 2007) I had quite the interesting conversation this weekend with a person who happened to be a former burglar. It was great timing because I was wondering if something like the skid mark underwear for hiding money would really work. I also figured that if you wanted to know the best place to hide your money from a burglar, a former burglar was the person to ask. I started off simply and was not surprised by the answer to the question “where is the best place to hide your money?” “At the bank,” he said with a sly grin When I rephrased and asked where the best place to hide money and valuables in the house would be if you had such items there, I was taken a bit by surprise by his answer: “It doesn’t matter how clever you think you are or where you hide it in your house, if I have enough time, I would be able to find where you stash your valuables,” he said bluntly.

July 31, 2009 Many believe a massive earthquake is due any time in Tokai, an area south of Tokyo that sits atop a precarious confluence of tectonic plates. One worried mom has taken preparations into her own hands Reporting from Kisarazu, Japan -- Come hell or high water -- she's actually expecting both -- Nobue Kunizaki will be ready when the dreaded Tokai earthquake finally hits central Japan, whether in the next month or years from now. She's anticipating a temblor that's already got a name as well as estimates on when and where and how mightily it might strike, a guessing game that has rattled even this earthquake-prone nation. But no one, perhaps, is shakier than the petite 39-year-old. She's built a new "Ninja house" with high-tech gadgets and design improvements that she hopes will withstand the force of the next earthquake for at least long enough for her family to escape.

Tuesday 28 July 2009 Faced with impending defeat in a US District Court habeas corpus case, the Obama administration devised a new strategy for continuing the detention of Mohammed Jawad, an Afghani who may have been as young as 12 in 2002 when he allegedly wounded two US soldiers with a grenade. Inside the Camp 6 high-security detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, a prisoner washes his hands. Prisoner Mohammed Jawad, who may have been as young as 12 when first detained, has been held at Guantanamo for seven years. (Photo: Brennan Linsley / AP) Justice Department lawyers announced Friday that they would transform Jawad's indefinite detention as an enemy combatant at Guantanamo Bay into a criminal case, thus negating the habeas corpus hearing in Washington, DC, where Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle had accused the government of "dragging [the case] out for no good reason." Jonathan Hafetz, an attorney with the ACLU's National Security Project and one of Jawad's lawyers, blasted the Obama administration for its "pathetic attempt to prolong an outrageous case and to manipulate the court system.

Wednesday, July 15, 2009 10:58 AM JANNAT ABAD, Iran (Reuters) - A Tupolev aircraft crashed in Iran on Wednesday on its way to Armenia, after catching fire mid-air and plowing into farmland killing all 168 people on board just 16 minutes after take-off. In the worst crash in Iran for six years, the Russian-built Caspian Airlines plane, left only scattered bits of incinerated metal and fragments of the bodies of 153 passengers and 15 crew across a wide area around a deep smoking crater in the ground. The aircraft, traveling to Armenia's capital Yerevan from Tehran, crashed near the northwestern city of Qazvin shortly before noon (0730 GMT). Eight members of Iran's national junior judo team and two coaches were among the dead as well as a former Iranian MP representing Iran's Armenian minority and, reportedly, the wife of the head of Georgia's diplomatic mission in Iran. "I saw a finger of a passenger on the ground.

There were conflicting reports about whether a child survived. The crash came two years after aviation officials reported faults with the plane, an Airbus 310 flying the last leg of a journey from Paris and Marseille to Comoros, with a stop in Yemen to change planes. Most of the passengers were from Comoros, a former French colony. Sixty-six on board were French nationals.

WASHINGTON (June 23) - Crews dismantled the wreckage Tuesday from a subway train collision that killed nine people and injured scores of others in the nation's capital, and a federal investigator revealed an old train involved in the crash should have been replaced because of safety concerns. The Metrorail transit system kept the old trains running despite warnings in 2006, said Debbie Hersman of the National Transportation Safety Board. It wasn't immediately clear what caused the crash and whether age played a role in the rush-hour collision Monday. The crash sent more than 70 people to hospitals. Metro officials said two men and seven women, all adults, were killed.

June 5, 2009 The captain of a Spanish airliner claims to have seen "an intense flash of white light" in the area where Air France Flight 447 was lost, the El Mundo newspaper said today. The co-pilot and a passenger on the Air Comet flight from Lima to Lisbon also saw the light, it said, adding that a written report from the captain has been sent on to Air France, Airbus and the Spanish civil aviation authority. "Suddenly, we saw in the distance a strong and intense flash of white light, which followed a descending and vertical trajectory and which broke up into six segments," the unidentified captain wrote. The Air Comet flight's position at the time was at seven degrees north latitude and 49 degrees west longitude, whereas the Air France flight was estimated to be on the equator and 30 degrees west longitude, El Mundo said. "Given the coincidence of time and place, I bring to your attention these elements so that they may be, possibly, useful in casting a light on the facts," the captain wrote.

Air France Plnae: Doomed French Jet Sent Out 24 System Failure Alerts Before Disappearing

The Air France plane that disappeared out of the sky en route from Brazil to France sent 24 automatic messages signalling system failures, French investigators have revealed. June 6, 2009 Among them may have been the plane's autopilot, which was disengaged for the final minutes before the plane is believed to have plunged into the sea. But officials said it was not clear whether the autopilot had been switched off by the pilots, or had cut out because it received conflicting airspeed readings. The mystery over what happened to flight AF447 deepened when French weather experts said there was no evidence the aircraft had encountered "exceptional" atmospheric conditions. The Airbus A330-200 flying from Rio to Paris disappeared without trace over the Atlantic on Sunday night with 228 people on board.

June 4, 2009 Oil stains found among the debris of doomed Air France Flight A447 could prove the plane was not blown out of the sky by terrorists, Brazil's defence minister said today. If a bomb had exploded on board the Airbus 330-200 the plane's fuel would have burned away, he said. And with more debris from the jet carrying 228 people being found scattered over a 55-mile area, he said it was looking more likely that the plane broke apart in the air. An oil slick believed to be from the fuel of Flight 447 is seen from the window of a Brazilian Air Force plane patrolling the Atlantic some 745 miles (1,200 km) north-east of Recife, Brazil 'The existence of oil stains could exclude the possibility of a fire or explosion,' Brazilian Defence Minister Nelson Jobim said at a news conference in Brasilia. 'If we have oil stains, it means it wasn't burned.

June 4, 2009 PARIS (AP) - A burst of messages sent by an Air France plane before it went down on Monday suggest that Flight 447 may have broken up thousands of feet in the air as it passed through a violent storm, experts told The Associated Press. Air France Received Bomb Threat Days Before Crash Plane's Black Boxes May Never Be Recovered A complete chronology published today by Brazil's O Estado de S.
Defense Minister Says Air France Jetliner Crashed Into Sea Tuesday, June 2, 2009 5:07 PM PARIS, June 2 -- Brazil's defense minister confirmed Tuesday that a swath of debris found floating in the Atlantic Ocean contains remnants of an Air France jetliner, which evidently went down with the loss of all 228 passengers and crew on board. Speaking to reporters in Rio de Janeiro after visiting relatives of the missing passengers, Defense Minister Nelson Jobim said there was "no doubt" that the debris spotted earlier in the day by Brazilian air force planes belonged to the French Airbus, which disappeared over the South Atlantic early Monday during a nasty lightning storm. The Brazilian search planes reported sighting floating metallic pieces, a seat and oil slicks, among other debris. There was no sign of any survivors. "It confirms that the plane fell in this area," Jobim said of the band of wreckage spotted by the Brazilian pilots.

Tuesday, June 2, 2009 1:43 PM PARIS, June 2 -- Brazilian air force planes on Tuesday reported spotting debris, including floating metallic pieces, a seat and oil slicks, that authorities said could be from the Air France flight carrying 228 people that disappeared over the South Atlantic a day earlier during a nasty lightning storm. The French government has vowed to keep searching for the missing jetliner as long as necessary, and ships and planes from a range of countries have converged on the vast expanse of ocean that constitutes the presumed crash zone. In a statement posted on its Web site, the Brazilian air force said search planes sighted small pieces of aircraft debris in the ocean, although it was not immediately possible to identify them positively as belonging to the Air France plane. It said "metallic and nonmetallic" debris was found floating in two places about 36 miles apart along the missing plane's flight path, including an airplane seat, an orange buoy, a barrel, "small white pieces" and slicks of oil or kerosene.
Monday, June 1, 2009 10:16 AM PARIS, June 1 -- An Air France jetliner carrying 216 passengers and a crew of 12 disappeared from radar screens during a high-altitude thunderstorm Monday on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, raising fears it had plunged into the Atlantic Ocean, French authorities said. The Brazilian Air Force mounted a search operation off Brazil's northeast coast, near the distant Fernando de Noronha islands, according to news agency reports from Rio. But Douglas Ferreira, head of the investigation division of Brazil's Civil Aeronautics Agency, warned reporters that the search could take a long time because it was taking place in a vast stretch of open sea. "We can fear the worst," said Jean-Louis Borloo, the French minister of ecology, who was overseeing rescue efforts from the Paris end. Borloo said the possibility of a terrorist attack had been eliminated and officials had tentatively concluded that the plane's disappearance was due to an accident.

May 24,2009 Lian Jiansheng, 66, a retired soldier, broke through a police cordon and reached out to shake the hand of the would-be jumper, Chen Fuchao, before pushing him off the bridge. "I pushed him off because jumpers like Chen are very selfish. Their action violates a lot of public interests," Mr Lai was quoted as saying by the China Daily newspaper. He added: "They do not really dare to kill themselves.

May 17, 2009 Are you are having a bad day? Fire authorities in California found a corpse in a burned-out section of forest while assessing the damage done by a forest fire. The deceased male was dressed in a full wet suit, complete with scuba tanks on his back, flippers, and face mask. A postmortem revealed that the man died not from burns, but from massive internal injuries. Dental records provided a positive identification. Investigators then set about to determine how a fully clothed diver ended up in the middle of a forest fire.
