INVASION USA Illegals could be legal as quickly as next year
'They have to pay a fine and a penalty and have to meet certain requirements' Nov. 15, 2009 David Axelrod Obama's senior advisor said today that a plan to grant citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S. is in the works and could be made law as early as next year. On CNN's "State of the Union" with John King, the White House's David Axelrod dodged a question asking him to commit to pushing immigration reform regardless of the political climate, but nonetheless confirmed earlier hints by Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano that Democrats and Republicans are working behind the scenes to pass major new legislation.. » read more

Illegal Immigrants to be Held in Former Hotels
Oct. 6, 2009 WASHINGTON - Illegal immigrants awaiting deportation would be confined according to the risk they may pose under a new plan proposed Tuesday by the homeland security secretary. Former hotels, nursing homes and other sites would be used to hold nonviolent, non-criminal immigrants as part of a larger plan to reform immigration detention. The alternative sites are intended to cut the costs of detaining immigrants, which reached nearly $2 billion in 2008. "We need to take what was a non-system and make it a system .. » read more

Liberals Seek Health-Care Access for Illegals
Sept. 28, 2009 Fearful that they're losing ground on immigration and health care, a group of House Democrats is pushing back and arguing that any health care bill should extend to all legal immigrants and allow illegal immigrants some access. The Democrats, trying to stiffen their party's spines on the contentious issue, say it's unfair to bar illegal immigrants from paying their own way in a government-sponsored exchange. Legal immigrants, they say, regardless of how long they've been in the United States, should be able to get government-subsidized health care if they meet the other eligibility requirements. "Legal permanent residents should be able to purchase their plans, and they should also be eligible for subsidies if they need it.. » read more

1/3 of Mexicans Would Migrate Illegally to US -Survey
September 23, 2009 Reuters MONTERREY, Mexico, Sept 23 (Reuters) - One in three Mexicans would migrate to the United States if they had the chance, and many would go illegally at a time of rising drug violence in Mexico, a survey released on Wednesday showed. Even with the United States hit by its worst recession in decades, many Mexicans still try to cross into the United States illegally, some paying traffickers huge fees. The survey by the Pew Research Center, a Washington-based public opinion research organization, found that 57% of Mexicans believe those who move from Mexico to the United States enjoy a better life. With drug violence becoming a scourge across Mexico, 81% of respondents said crime is a major problem and 73% said illegal drugs are a serious issue for their country. Asked if they would like to move to the United States, 33% of those taking part in the survey said "yes" and 18% said they would move even without the necessary visas.. » read more
